Dad says:
The bat is a member of the family Phyllostomatidae, a family "commonly"
known as leaf-nosed bats (as you might have guessed). There are quite a
few species within the family. If the pictured bat is from the United
States, I'd suppose it to be the California leaf-nosed bat (Macrotus
californicus)--the only US bat with large ears and leaf nose.
