Freshman Standing Assignments
SAMPLE
Vocabulary
Two vocabulary words will be given each day. Learn the definition, spelling, and part of speech of all words and be able to use them correctly in a sentence. Tests are given every twenty words, and words are cumulative. A final vocabulary test will be given, and will count for a portion of the final exam.
Quotations
One quotation will be given each week. Learn the quotation, its author, and its source. A quotation test will be given every other week. These quotations are cumulative throughout the course. A quotation final will be part of your final examination.
Grammar
A grammar idea will be reviewed each day. These will be related to your writing errors or ones that you might make. Keep a section in your notebook to record your grammar examples, so that you will have your own textbook. I will take suggestions from you for things which you need reviewed. Grammar grades count twenty (20) percent of your grade. You will have grammar tests to apply what we have discussed in class.
Journals
Journals will be kept each day. These will be tied in to your reading and your writing. Some days we will write about poetry and quotations, and some days we will pre-write for essays. I will be reading your journals and checking them periodically to see your progress.
