Summer and Winter People

by Nancy Wood

We are a Summer People and a Winter People,

Planters and hunters, gatherers of

Small rewards for the pain of all our efforts.

We are a Summer People and a Winter People,

Living and dying, Sun Bringers and

Sun Takers for each cycle of our seasons.

We are a Summer People and a Winter People,

Dressed in leaves and stones, dancers for

The blessings of Earth and all her creatures.

We are a Summer People and a Winter People,

Working and resting, keepers of dreams and

Our Mother Earth connections.

We are a Summer People and a Winter People,

Dwelling amidst hummingbirds and snowflakes, makers of

Experience to hand down to our children.
