and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb
        A. Judgement of Babylon
           # Nahum 3:1-7, 3:16-19
[NOTE: The passage in Nahum is in regards to Assyria and its
capital Nineveh, but it sure looks like it will fit here!]
           i. Babylon comes in remembrance before God
              # Rev 16:19b-21
              a. God purposes to give her the cup of the fierceness of
                 His wrath
              b. every island flees, the mountains are not found
              c. men are stoned with hailstones from heaven; men
                 blaspheme God
ii. Angel shows John the harlot
               # Rev 17:1-7
               a. harlot described
                  (1) sits on many waters
                  (2) the kings of the earth committed fornication with
                      her
                  (3) the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with
                      the wine of her fornication
                  (4) John is taken to wilderness/desert to see her
                  (5) seen sitting on the scarlet beast
                      (a) beast is full of names of blasphemy
                      (b) has seven heads and ten horns
                  (6) woman arrayed in purple and scarlet, decked with
                      gold, precious stones and pearls
                  (7) woman holds a golden cup in her hand full of
abominations and filthiness of her fornication
                  (8) upon her head written a mystery "Babylon the great,
the mother of all harlots and of the abominations
                      of the earth"
                                        -- or --
upon her head is written "Mystery Babylon, the
great mother of all harlots and of the abominations
                      of the earth."
                  (9) woman was drunk with the blood of the saints and of
                      the witnesses of Jesus
                  (10) John greatly marveled at her (which is why I
believe the first (8) is correct -- was he
surprised that she would be the mother of all
                       harlots?)
iii. God's tool for judgement revealed
                # Rev 17:8-14
                a. the beast
                   (1) the beast was, is not, and is about to come up
out of the abyss and go into perdition
                   (2) those earth dwellers, whose names are not in the
Book of Life, will wonder when they see the
                       beast
                   (3) the seven heads
                       (a) are the seven mountains on which she sits
                       (b) are seven kings -- five are fallen, one is
and the other is not yet come -- when the
seventh comes, he must continue for a short
                           space
                   (4) is the eighth -- is of the seven and goes to
                       perdition
                b. the ten horns
                   (1) are ten kings who have received no kingdom
                   (2) they receive power as kings one hour with the
                       beast
                   (3) they have one purpose and shall give their power
                       and strength to the beast
                   (4) these make war with the Lamb and are overcome
iv. The authority of the harlot
               # Rev 17:15
               a. the waters on which the harlot sits are peoples,
                  multitudes and nations and tongues
           v. The judgement of the whore
              # Rev 17:16-18
              a. the ten horns on the beast and the beast shall hate
                 the whore
                 (1) they shall make her desolate and naked
                 (2) they shall eat her flesh
                 (3) they shall burn her with fire

over the kings of the earth

          B. Babylon's verdict and sentencing
           i. verdict is pronounced -- angel comes down from heaven with
              great power
              # Rev 18:1-3
              a. earth is lightened with his glory
              b. cried mightily with a strong voice
                 (1) the verdict
                     (a) Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen
                     (b) it is become the habitaion of demons
                     (c) it is become the hold of every foul spirit
                     (d) it is become a cage for every unclean and
                         hateful bird
                 (2) the reasoning for the verdict
                     (a) all nations have drunk of the wine of her
                         passionate fornication
                     (b) the kings of the earth have committed
                         fornication with her
                     (c) the merchants of the earth are made rich through
                         the abundance of her delicacies
ii. Babylon is sentenced -- the voice from heaven
               # Rev 18:4-8
               a. warning pronounced to believers
                  # Micah 4:10 (?)
                  (1) come out of her, my people (account of Lot??)
                      (a) that you do not partakers of her sins
                      (b) that you do not receive her plagues
                          (Lot's wife)
                      (c) it is time for judgement -- her sins have
reached unto heaven and God has remembered her
iniquities (the same witness God gave to Abram
                          concerning Sodom and Gommorah)
               b. the sentence
                  (1) reward her as she has rewarded you
                  (2) double unto her double according to her works
                  (3) in the cup which she has filled, fill to her double
                  (4) how much she has glorified herself and lived
deliciously, so much sorrow and torment give her
               c. the reasoning for the verdict
                  (1) she has said in her heart "I sit as a queen, and am
no widow, and shall see sorrow no more"
                  (2) she will, therefore, receive her plagues in one
day, because strong is the Lord God who judges her
                      (a) death
                      (b) mourning
                      (c) famine
                      (d) she shall be utterly burned with fire
           iii. reactions to the judgement
                # Rev 18:9-20
                a. the kings of the earth who committed fornication with
her and lived deliciously with her
                   (1) bewail her and lament for her when they see the
                       smoke of her burning
                   (2) they stand afar off for the fear of her torment
                   (3) they say 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon,
that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgement
                       come.'
                b. the merchants of the earth
                   (1) weep and mourn over her because no one buys their
                       merchandise anymore
                       (a) of gold, silver, precious stones, pearls, fine
linen, purple, silk, scarlet, thyine wood, all
types of ivory and wooden vessels, brass,
                           iron, marble, cinnamon, incense, ointments,
frankinscence, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat,
beasts, sheep, horses, chariots, slaves and
                           souls of men.
                       (b) the fruits thy soul lusted after are departed
from thee and all things which were dainty and
goodly are departed from thee and thou shalt
                           find them no more
                   (2) stand afar off for the fear of her torment
                   (3) weeping and wailing
                   (4) they say 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was
clothed in fine linen, purple, scarlet and decked
with gold, precious stones and pearls! for in one
hour so great riches is come to nought.'
                c. the shipmasters, all the company in ships and sailors,
as many as trade by sea
                   (1) stood afar off
                   (2) cried when they saw the smoke of her burning
                   (3) they say 'What city is like unto this great city?'
                   (4) they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping
                       and wailing
                   (5) they say 'Alas, alas, that great city, wherein
were made rich all that had ships in the sea by
reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she
made desolate. Rejoice over her, heaven, and holy
apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on
                       her.'
iv. angel declares the nature and completeness of the
               judgement
               a. nature of the judgement
                  # Rev 18:21-24
                  (1) mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone
and cast it into the sea saying 'Thus with violence
shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and
shall be found no more at all'
               b. completeness of the judgement
                  (1) no one shall be found in thee anymore -- no
                      harpers, musicians, pipers, trumpeters, craftsmen
of whatever craft; not the sound of a millstone,
not the light of a candle, not the voice of the
                      bridegroom or the bride
               c. the reason for judgement
                  (1) her merchants were the great men of the earth

for true and righteous are His judgements: for He
has judged the great whore which did corrupt the
earth with her fornication, and has avenged the
blood of His servants at her hand.'
                (2) again they say 'Alleluia, and her smoke goes up

omnipotent reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice and give
honor to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come and
His wife has made herself ready. And to her was granted
that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and
