The Play

by Danny Merrifield (16)

The other night I took in a show
while I was feeling low
and the play went on for hours.

I spent the time wishing for you
with nothing else to do,
and the play went on for hours.

On the stage was a crying clown
who could only frown,
and the play went on for hours.

My eyes were clouded with tears
I could see only my fears,
and the play went on for hours.

In my mind I could see her face,
my grief was my only saving grace,
and the play went on for hours.

As the night drew to a close
I hid my compunction so it wouldn’t show,
and the play was finally over.
