Tears of Israel

by Ashley Marshall (14)

A beautiful once free bird
sits gazing through his cage
his cries begging to be heard
seeking vent for his rage

Anger at his unjust fate
jailed and teased with hope
rising at the opening of his gate
only to see the haunting rope

Given a trial with a biased jury
that will surely sentence him to die
give rise and fire to his fury
at all the tears that Israel cries.
