Killing the Innocent

by Annalee Browne (14)

The house shook from the loud music.
The party was so wild it could make you sick.
    I overcame my biggest fear
And said no when they offered me beer.
The party ended soon, and I drove away in my car.
Our house, I knew, was not very far.
Then all at once I felt the pain and heard the sound
And the next thing I knew, I was on the ground.
All the glass around me was splintered and broken.
    A policeman's voice, soon I could hear,
He said, " The boy that hit her was loaded with beer. "
At that moment I knew I didn't have long,
And I wouldn't be able to say goodbye to my Mom.
It hurt to know I was going to die
Without ever saying a little goodbye.
If only they could go through that too,
Then maybe they wouldn't do what they do.
If only all this pain I could show,
Then they'd see that drinking and driving don't go.
