If

by Sandra Gran (15)

If our hearts would grow instead of our hate,
only sought out to make people great.
If we could see what another sees
Ending the thought of more for me
If we could stop the violence we create
But all we can do is wait
If we could hear harmony
instead of shots redundantly ringing
If only a heart of stone could
tender to a heart of gold
The pain would begin to melt away
Slipping down a window sill
on a rainy day
