Depth

by Jacqueline Manque (14)

Shallow Pond; Clear Blue Waters
What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get
Shallow pond: no uncovered layers
Oh-So-Easy to forget
Perfect pond, at the surface,
But under the surface are no fish
No Life there--past the surface
Throw in a penny; Make a Wish

Take a stroll, past the gardens
Clipped and manicured to look nice
Take a stroll, past the "man-made"
And into nature; Paradise
Go back into that Eden
Where Adam took that god-forsaken stare
Journey back to nature
Take a stroll, I'll be waiting there.

Take a stroll, past the gardens
Into a world of entwined creeping vines
Into the woods, into the intriguing
Into this enchanted world of mine
I'll be waiting by a small creek
Dotted with nature's stepping stones
Overrun by moss, by dirt by grime
But filled with a quality; nature's own.

I'll be waiting! Past the fountain
In this world of unmasked glory
For this stream has no facade
And depth under the surface; an interesting story
But you will never know it, stranger
The layers that this stream provides
Though the waters might be murky,
This stream has nothing to hide
You will never know it stranger
What freedom nature doth provide
If you do not take a stroll
If you do not look inside.
