I AM THE WAY , THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE

The Georgian Byzantine Rite was preserved at one chapel at Istanbul, in
Turkey (under Roman-Rite jurisdiction) during a period of severe communist
persecution in Georgia. The Mass at that chapel was discontinued in 1974
when the priest there died. The Rite is the only one in the East which has
no corresponding ordinary jurisdiction anywhere in the world. The Communist heretic and butcher,
Josef Stalin, forbade Georgian Catholics from belonging to any Byzantine Rite of the
Catholic Church. He was attempting to force them into the Roman Rite. Instead, most of
them joined the Armenian Catholic Church, which is a non-Byzantine Eastern Catholic Church
in Communion with the Pope.
The Armenian Catholic Church was persecuted under the Communist heresy but has now been
revived. There are now parishes in the following cities and towns:
Province of Akhaltzha:
Soukhlis, Nokhreb, Koulalis, Tzinouban, Abatkhev, Tzkhaltpila, Djoughla, Tourtzkh,
Alastan, Varevan, Khoulgomo;
Province of Bakdanovka: Hechdia, Pavra, Gardigam, Toria,
Oudjmana, Jedanovagan.
All the foregoing parishes celebrate traditional Armenian Rite Catholic Masses which
can fulfil the Sunday obligation for Traditional Roman-Rite Catholics. Escape from the Novus
Ordo is not difficult in Georgia!
