Listing of Traditional Latin Masses Which Have Been
Approved Under Papal Authority.
-- REPUBLIC OF FINLAND
--
There are no traditional latin masses in Finland. An Hungarian priest
established a Byzantine mission at Rekola, where the Byzantine Divine Liturgy used to be
celebrated every Sunday. This mission was eventually moved to Espoo to an
cumenical centre which was founded in 1964. A Finnish Byzantine mass (In Old
Slavonic) continues to be celebrated at this centre. The Finnish Byzantine mission
corresponds to the small Finnish Orthodox Church, to which about one per cent of Finns are
attached. Over ninety-five per cent of Finnish citizens are Lutherans.
