Issue 3 is an ugly blemish on the crown of the Queen City. Repeal this hateful amendment to the city's Charter. It renders unworthy any claim to be the "most livable city," or a world-class city.
Issue 3 is an abomination even on religious grounds. The Apostle Paul offered no direct teachings to any of his own churches on the subject of homosexual conduct. Even in Romans, the most important text cited, his remarks are an incidental part of his argument that all people are sinners who stand in need of salvation.
In all of the four Gospels, Jesus does not condemn homosexuality, but he does command love: "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By |
this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another." (John 13:34-35).
I have lived in Cincinnati for 50 years and I cannot understand the passage of Issue 3. Are the citizens of Cincinnati as fearful, prejudiced, and intolerant as the 62 percent vote indicates? Or were they unduly influenced by outside forces?
For whatever combination of reasons, Issue 3 passed. This cancer should be removed from the charter to make the city healthy again.
