About Dr. Janet Galvan 1998 West Virginia All-State Children's Chorus Conductor    
Professor of Music at Ithaca College, conducts the Ithaca College Women's Chorale and is artistic director for the Ithaca Children's Choir. Dr. Galvan has prepared choruses for many conductors including Lukas Foss, Carl St. Clair, Eji Que, Gisele Bendor, Doreen Rao and Grand Llewellyn. Dr. Galvan's contribution to choral music was recognized by her New York colleagues in 1995 when she received the New York Outstanding Choral Director Award.     Active as a guest conductor, Dr. Galvan has conducted all-state and regional choral festivals across the country. As a guest conductor, she works with choirs of all ages, children through adults. Conducting appearances in 1997 include the Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, Virginia and New York All-State Choruses. She conducted the first college/university Women's Honors Choir at the Eastern Division American Choral Directors Association Conference in Washington, D.C. in February of 1994 and the ACDA National Children's Honors Choir in March of 1995. Dr. Galvan was a headline conductor at the 1996 Western and Southern Division ACDA conventions. She conducted the North American Children's Chorale and the 
New England Symphonic Ensemble in concert in 1996 and 1997, The Chorale and the State Philharmonic of Bialysotk, Poland in concert in 1995, and will return to conduct in Carnegie Hall in June of 1998. Her own choral groups have been chosen to perform at national and regional conventions of ACDA and the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). She has also been a featured clinician in summer workshops at many colleges and universities. Her outstanding work as a conductor and clinician was recognized by Boosey and Hawkes, and Dr. Galvan was asked to be a clinician for that company in 1989. She is a member of the Artistic Staff of the Choral Music Experience (CME) founded by Dr. Doreen Rao.


Dr. Galvan's expertise in treble choral music and innovative programming led to her association with Roger Dean Publishing Company in the development of the Janet Galvan Women's Choir Series as well as "Roots and Wings," a series for young singers.

As a soloist, Dr. Galvan her performed leading soprano roles with the Ithaca Opera Company. She was a member of the Grammy Award-winning Robert Shaw Institute Chorus for three years.
