Arrival To School / Dismissal / Tardies / Early Pick-ups

Classses will begin at 8:20 a.m. Therefore, students must be in their classes ready to start prior to 8:20. No students should arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. Staff members are scheduled for student supervision beginning at 7:30. In cases where it is necessary for students to arrive prior to 7:30, parents should enroll the student(s) in our Before School Day Care Program.

The recommended time for car riders to arrive is between 8:00 and 8:10. Students arriving between 7:30 and 7:50 are to report to classes. Bus riders and car riders arriving after 7:50 should go directly to thier classrooms to begin preparaions for the day. Students who arrive in their classroms after 8:15 must sign in at the office and obtain an admittance pass to give to their teacher. This removes the student's name from the absence list.

Dismissal

Students who ride the buses are dismissed at 2:50 p.m. Car riders are dismissed at 2:55. Students who are generally picked up between 2:55 and 3:10 should report directly to the loading area. Students who are routinely picked up between 3:10 and 3:30 should report to the gym where they are supervised until 3:30. This includes thosed picked up by the YMCA and Pat's Day Care. If it is not possible to pick up your child by 3:30, parents should make arrangements to enroll the child(ren) in the After School Day Care Programs (838-0078).

Tardies

Tardies are disruptive to the instructional day. Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. are considered tardy. Tardies are noted on your child's record. Each instance when a student is late to school or checks out of school early whether the student returns to school or not is counted as a tardy. Tardies are coded as excused or unexcused based upon the same criteria as an excused absence. Five(5) unexcused tardies shall constitute one (1) unexcused absence. Make up time time for each unexcused absence is 45 minutes after school on days designated by the classroom teacher. Children who are tardy are brought to school by an adult. If the child is hard to get going in the mornings, change his/her routine so that there is adequate time to get ready. This is a way to teach responsibility. If the adult is making the child late, reconsider alternatives so that the child can be brought to school befor 8:15. Please help your child make the most of the instructional time provided. ONLY students who have perfect attendance with NO tardies are eligible to receive a Perfect Attendance Certificate from the State of North Carolina. However, students who have achieved perfect attendance but has accumulated a tardy will be recognized for their Superior Attendance with a certificate. It is suggested that on inclement weather days that car riders allow an extra 10-15 minuntes in order for students arrive before 8:15.

Early Pick-ups

Just as tardies disrupt the instrucional day, so do check-outs. If the child has an appointment and needs to leave early, this is understandable. However, sometimes adults do not want to get into afternoon traffic and the child is checked out early, prior to afternoon dismissal. This counts as a tardy. All children must be checked out at the office. If you need to check your child out, come by the office and we will gladly call your child's class and the teacher will send the child to the office. Students must be in school at least one half of the day in order to be counted present for the day. Eleven thirty is considered one half day for attendance purposes.
