I.
Rooted from the ground, with knots and sinuous
branches, the tree grows and shifts into sun-spurts,
those flicks, when fed with artless water. Still
those who think they hold it, self-made with their
disciples, stand clenching putrid boughs.

II.
One breath can lead to vines or bark or sap,
the next to an empty mocking-hole.
