I, like many it seems, consider myself a witch or witchy pagan woman, but not Wiccan. I do think you can be a witch and Wiccan. It's unfortunate it's not always that way, since the magick and the religion would seem to go quite well together naturally.

But anyway, here is some information about me. Since I could read, I have been reading about and learning various "crafts" like astrology and its connection with psychology and numerology, and developing my psychic senses and dream interpretation ability. I was raised in an ELCA Lutheran church, but never ever believed that their truth was, or had to be, my truth. This naturally led me to the study of alternative religious and spiritual paths, beginning with native shamanism when I was 13. (Right after I was "confirmed," by the way!) I also stopped eating beef and pork then. (I am now a full vegetarian, though not a vegan.)

Continuing throughout middle and high school, I began to practice certain elements of shamanism, although not because I undertook it directly. I've always found that things of a magickal or psychic nature seem to come to me passively, almost as if I had through osmosis absorbed their gifts. You see, I never was big into rituals. Therefore, I didn't ever specifically "go on a vision quest" or try to separate my astral self from my physical body. In time, it seems, things just occur. I guess when the time is right, or when I'm ready.

I have only been to one (mixed-tradition) group ritual, but almost all of my friends are pagan of some sort or another (we just came together in middle school by chance, not looking for each other). I have met and spoke with many others, both here and while I was in Ireland, where the university's paganfolk veiled themselves thinly under the guise of the "folklore society." (Although to give them their due credit, there usually was quite a fascinating talk/discussion on some aspect of Irish folklore before each pub session. :-))
