The following areas under Emory's objectives are yet to be fulfilled to my satisfaction. I include possible solutions for the future.
Emory Standard 1c:
The experienced teacher will demonstrate an advanced understanding
of the influence of family participation on students' learning and will
demonstrate a variety of ways to involve parents in supporting student
learning.
Solution:
At the beginning of the semester, I might inquire the profession of
the students' parents. In the Technical Communications course I could
build an introductory activity that would require students to interview
their parents on their job experiences. Perhaps for the final in
which students are interviewed, parents could play the role of the employer.
Also, parents could evaluate student resumes.
Within the other courses, I should require some type of interview prior to a reading selection. Where journals are often used for student writing, students could complete oral journals of their parents' responses to questions.
Solution:
At the end of this and following semester I need to write down my major
concerns with my teaching practice. What things did not go as well
as I would like? From there I need to establish some plan of action
and a way to document the results, whether through interviews or data collection.
Solution:
Immediately I will contact the county office to request supervision
add-on certification.
Assuming that the Day Spa Project continues to go well, I would like to create more projects to involve students to the level at which they currently work. I need to do this type of authentic project and assessment earlier in the year to prepare them for the work force.
