He began his business when he was 21 years old and at 27 he became the president of what is now the biggest pharmaceutical group in Portugal; he has performed this activity ever since. He has also spent some time with associative activities.
In 1994, together with Bial Laboratories and the Principals Counsil of the Portuguese Universities, he created Bial Foundation, whose main aim is to encourage the investigation about Man, both in its physical and spiritual aspects, namely in the areas of Psychophisiology and Parapsychology – through a system of scholarships for scientific investigation (nowadays they have research teams in several European and American countries) – and in general Health – through the Bial Award – the most important Portuguese award.
When he was 40, he has been given the honour of Commendator of the Order of Merit by the President of the Portuguese Republic.
Ever since he was a young man, he has been concerned about existential problems. He likes to consider himself as a free thinker and study all doctrines.
He has published several texts in the media, specially in the magazine “A Razão” and in the the newspaper “Jornal de Notícias”. In 1994, he published an anthology of these texts called “Beyond Technological Evolution” and afterwards, in 1997, “At the Window of Life”.
