Matt's Rolltop Desk

Hello. My name's Matt, and this is my home on the World Wide Web. Those of you who have been here before may have noticed some differences. Well my life has been undergoing some changes since I first started this, and I thought it only appropriate to make some updates.

The first major difference you may note is that this used to be called just a mere "cubbyhole". Well I've done some growing the last few years, and a cubbyhole just didn't seem spacious enough anymore, so I thought I would enlarge up one step to encompass an entire desk, rather than just one nook. Perhaps one day, I may even be a full room, but that is a bit far off in the future to say.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY:

I started this page while a student at college in the spring of 1998, under the tutelage of a dear and special friend of mine named Kelly. It languished for awhile over that summer, and then got a little bit fancier the following school year, as I let HTML programming become one of my procrastinations from working on my ba paper. It was (and still is) a slow process, as my knowledge of HTML code is relatively small, but it's gotten better as time goes on. I fear though that just as I approach any kind of proficiency, that the world again leaves me behind for the greener pastures of XML, WAP, and other futuristic computer things beyond the comprehension of a humble History major such as myself.

Well I graduated college in June 1999, and a lot of things began changing for me at that point. I went through a 13-month span where I lived in 5 different places, entered the professional workforce, and watched many friendships change. I lived and worked full-time in Chicago for a year, but the restlessness of youth led me to undertake a wanderlust, which has brought me from Illinois to the east coast of the United States and residence outside our nation's capital of Washington, D.C. I am working on establishing myself in a new part of the world, a rather significant change for a humble country boy who had previously spent his entire life living in the Midwest.

This page reflects at least a small part of who I am, and where I am right now. If it seems a little cluttered, or confusing, than I suppose that is perhaps accurate, as I am still growing and learning, and getting used to the great big world of adulthood; since I graduated last year, and even moreso when I began my great adventure in July 2000 by moving across country, I have been doing a lot of that. Anyway, I hope you find your stay interesting. Please feel free to explore, and to send comment to me on what you think.
