So here's my crime: I'm an entrepreneur.
I started a business. A business in which the very nature of
the product is transitory.
I created products that helped an emerging industry, which has since transformed the world.
I took risks, and put my own ass and wallet on the line. I
continued to develop my product line by sensing trends and
utilizing my own capital to acquire companies to better
maximize economies of scale and reward me for my risk.
I formed partnerships to ensure that my products would be better exposed. I helped my partners to better develop their products. I saw opportunity, and leapt.
I was successful.
My success has allowed other industries to grow and flourish. I saw an opportunity to grow my business by integrating our
product line into existing technology, while planning for those
still on the drawing board.
I help provide jobs, not only for my employees, but countless thousands working for companies who do business with me.
My intensity and drive have made my competitors stronger, and
have made my industry grow at an astronomical rate.
I have been cut-throat when necessary, and as a businessman,
will continue to do so as the need arises. Darwin wrote about
this behaviour.
Anyone doing business in these times understands that profit
margins are thin, and shareholders have zero tolerance for
stagnation, expecting instead continual economic growth.
The US government has sued my company on the grounds that I am unfair. The last nine years has seen unrivaled economic growth. The market segment in which I do business has led the way for this growth. I have led this segment out of the fringe into the mainstream and to a leadership role in the global marketplace. Our products helped create the global marketplace in the first place, and in spite of this, the government says I'm unfair.
Government officials who have lived off of my success.
Government officials who have never taken a risk in their
lives, criticizing from the safety of a civil service job.
Government officials who have never had to look into the eyes
of an employee and tell them that they will in fact have a job,
and that their family will be financially secure. Government
officials that wonder why manufacturing jobs have gone
overseas.
And according to them all, I'm unfair.
People lambaste me as a control freak, and a neurotic. People delight in sending emails railing my products, and myself.
I would say to my critics "Put your own bacon on the line
instead of cheerleading from the sidelines. If you can't, then
shut the fuck up." What a lot of fucking cowards you all are.
Have a great day.
