Thus it happened that Jason, when he was not able to retrieve his lost shoe in any manner, he came into the king's kingdom without one shoe. When King Pelias saw him, he was thoroughly frightened. He knew indeed what the oracle had warned him of this man. He formed a plan to himself. He was a certain king, Aeëtes, who ruled Colchis at this time. He was entrusted to bring back the Golden Fleece because Phrixus had formerly left behind. Pelias therefore decided to send Jason so that this fleece might be obtained. Although the danger may have been great, he was hoping he would become terrified on the journey. He sent for Jason therefore to himself, and he informed hi of the fleece. He knew this thing could be of the greatest difficulty, however he under took this task relying on his courage with the greatest zeal.
