Then Eurystheus ordered Hercules to bring back alive a certain ferocious bull from the island of Crete. As soon as the wind was favorable, he climbed aboard the ship and immediately set sail. When he approached immediately to the island however, a great storm suddenly began to blow, and he was not able to keep the ship's course. A great terror seized the spirits of the sailors; almost all hope of safety had been lost. Hercules immediately was frightened by no measure. After a short time it was calm, and the sailors, who themselves regained now from terror, landed the ship to land. Hercules, who went forth from the ship, hastened to the king of Crete to whom he informed the journey's cause. Thereafter he was all prepared, he hastened to this region where the bull ravaged. After a short time he saw this bull, and although the thing was dangerous, he seized its horns. Then by means of an enormous labor, he dragged the monster to the ship and returned with the booty into Greece.
