Rachel's Book Site began in Geocities in 1997, at Area51/Lair/1032 (I was one of the first residents of Area51/Lair, which was exciting at the time). I began by using the Basic HTML Editor, and eventually worked my way up to the big, scary Advanced Editor! I learned HTML by looking at other people's website sources--I didn't even have a graphical browser!
I started out making images in Adobe Illustrator, which I didn't really know how to use. Eventually I got MetaCreations' Painter Classic, which I used for many months, finally splurging on Painter 6 this past fall. I've used several different computers to make this site: a Mac SE, Mac Performa 630c, and an iMac, which I've been using for a year now.
Right now, all graphics for this page are made by me (Rachel), except for the book jacket pictures. All graphics were made with MetaCreations' Painter 6. The font used for the navigation buttons and the background is called SuRealDingbats and is available for download (Mac and PC) here.
