Beltane
This is about Beltane, it's meanings, herbs, foods and ritual actions associated with it. It is by far not a complete list. Each tradition does things in a differnt way. This is a very general overview. Done with good intentions so please accept it that way, In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.
Beltane is one of the 3 spring Sabbats (festivals), it is also known as Mayday. It can fall anywhere between April 29 and May 6th depending on your traditions. From what I have experienced it seems to be on 30 april or 1 may. It is when 2 become 1, a time for love.
Traditional colors are Red and White but birhgt blue, lavender, warm pink and bright yellow are just as nice for it.
Fresh flowers cut right before dawn make good decorations( but I can't stand to cut flowers since they die, I don't use them). Trees covered in ribbons are lovely yard decorations as well.
A crown of flowers and ribbons for yourself is also quite acceptable.
Some of the traditional foods for Beltane are red fruits such as strawberries and cherries, herbal salads, red wine or punch and beltane cakes.
Clothing , if you don't work skyclad, should the glorious bright colors of springtime. I don't work skyclad.. my neighbors would be scared out of their heads *smiles*.
If you can't burn the traditional Bale-fire, use your fireplace indoors if you have one, a bbq grill outside if you don't, or if you have to work indoors use 13 dark green candles.
Here is a partial list of the traditional herbs for Beltane. Almond, Angelica, ash tree, bluebells, cinquefoil, daisy, frankincense, hawthorn, ivy, lilac, marigold, meadowsweet, primrose, roses, satyrion root, woodruff, and yellow cowslips.
Some of the traditional Sabbat incense for Beltane are frankincense, lilac and rose. Sabbat gemstones are emerald, orange carnelian, sapphire and rose quartz.
This is just a bit of information you will need for celebrating the Sabbat. I hope it helps.
