                                                                     By  Kristin M. Lear

Hi my name  is Kristin Lear. The topic I am studying is Amelia Earhart. Did you know that Amelia was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic? I picked Amelia as a topic because I was really interested in how she died.

                                                                           Child
Amelia was born on July 24, 1897 at her grandfather's house. Amelia was the first born. Amelia was named after her two grandmothers. Amelia was a tomboy when she was a girl. When Amelia was a little girl she liked adventure. When Amelia was a girl she got scolded for jumping a fence.

                                                                       Adult
Amelia attended Hyde Park high school in Chicago. Amelia planned to go to college but after she saw four wounded men she went to work at the Red Cross. Amelia did not have to give up action and daring in adulthood. Amelia got money to buy her first plane from her mom. She  wanted a plane for her flying .

                                                                      Family
Otis, Amelia's grandfather, did not want Amy, Amelia's mother, to marry Edwin, Amelia's father, because he did not think he could support a family. Amy is the otis's oldest child. Amy encouraged her daughters to be independent. Edwin was a lawyer for the railroad. Edwin was a alcoholic. Amelia married George Putnam. Amelia's husband George wrote a book about her life called Soaring Wings.

                                                                       Quotes
Amelia said "she was not afraid to fail". Amelia said " courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace with your self ". Amelia said "you too can dream big dreams, and in spite of the challenges you encounter in your life , you can accomplish your hearts desires". Amelia said "women must try to do things as men have". I think that the quotes are are right because you can do all those things.

                                                            Changing the world
Fame was never Amelia's goal. Amelia's plane mysteriously disappeared after take off from New Guinea. Amelia was the first woman to earn her pilot's certificate from NAA.                                                              Accomplishments

It took two months to repair the Electra. Amelia flew coast to coast in autogyro. Amelia made her first solo flight in 1921. It took three weeks to get to New Guinea and now they had to land.
