Well, Let's See...

October 13, 2000

There are many things going on in the world right now, but I find it hard to spend much time thinking about them. My beautiful wife, Laura, is very anxious to deliver our fifth child. She's due on Tuesday, but was hoping that this baby would be as early as three of our other children. She's very tired and in some pain, but as always, she manages to care for all of us and make our house a home.
So, I just heard about the supposed bombing of the USS Cole near Yemen. It appears that this was either an accident or a deliberate attack against the United States, most likely for our actions in trying to secure peace in the Middle East. I know that this battle has been raging since the Moslems first attacked, slaughterred, raped and pillaged their way into the Holy Lands in the dawn of the second millennium, but I can't help but think how pathetic it must be to people to see a weak representative of the confused United States try to mend the damage. I love my country and I defended her with my life in the Gulf War, but I don't like the direction she has taken over the past decade.
Our country has lost her bearing. When we can have an admitted child killer in the Whitehouse for two terms, and then have people even consider electing his partner in crime to the Whitehouse, thereby securing the wholesale murder of millions of kids and elderly for decades to come, based on proposed Supreme Court appointments, then we have a real problem. And this is not about party politics, it's about life.
If Bush kept his current stand on abortion - that it's okay to murder an innocent, defenseless child simply because the mother was impregnated under less-than desireable circumstances, and Gore honestly and adamantly changed his position to one of total respect and defense for human life, no matter the circumstances, then I would vote for Gore. Now, the chances of that happening are about as good as me winning the PowerBall six times in a row. Then again, he's switched his position many other times, maybe he'll do it for a good reason this time and not for merely selfish, political ones.
I'm not happy that our only realisitc hopes for change are draped upon someone who doesn't have an unequivocal stand for life, but we have to take what we can at this point. I made the mistake last time of believing in the ability of the American public to recognize lies, deceit and bigotry and vote for a life candidate, but I won't make the same mistake this time. As much as I may agree with some of the other candidates, I realize that to effect any change, we have to take the best option. In that case, for those who love life and think that no one should have the right to take innocent life, then the choice is George W. Bush.
The most disconcerting thing that I've heard lately about this election is the number of so-called Catholics who plan to vote for Gore. It astounds me that someone who claims to belong to the only Church which stills defends life at every stage, can vote for a man who is euphorically anti-life. The man admits that he will put Supreme Court Justices in place who will uphold and further the illegal turn of Roe v. Wade. This is not a vote for life, this is a vote for death. And yet, someone who claims to be Catholic is putting their soul in jeopardy by voting for this man - and that's my opinion, not a statement from the Church. Perhaps an analogy would work here.
Imagine that there are two men who want to sneak into your home to steal the money you stuck in the cookie jar. But you can only stop one from coming in, so you have to choose which one to "let" in.

Burglar ABurglar B
He will take all of your money. He will take very little of your money.
Will use your money to kill your neighbors' children. Will use your money to help children in health, schol and life.
Will use the money he stole from you to pay your enemy to tear down your fence, kill your watchdog and disable your home alarm system. Will use the money he took to fix your fence, give you a better alarm system and feed your dog.
Will use your money to pay various sick people to come to your house and defecate on your lawn while screaming obsenities at you, your spouse, your kids and telling you that the way you live your life is wrong and the way they live something you should raise up as "alternative". He will not pay these people to do this and will arrest them for their behavior. He will also allow you to live your life as you choose without having to worry about being called a racist, homophobic or mean-spirited simply because your beleifs disagree with a vocal minority.
When you get sick, he will look at how you voted, what organizations you belong to and then decide if he'll call a doctor for you. He will call the doctor immediately and then determine how much you can afford, and how much of the money he took he'll add to your bill to help you out.
He will seduce and rape your daughter then tell you he didn't do it, but then say he did, but it wasn't what you think, and then have every lesbian-led women's rights groups defend his actions as "his personal affairs". He will hold people responsible for their actions. He will try criminals no matter what office they hold. And he will defend the rights of women against abuses of power.
He will tell you when and where you can pray. He will burn your churches if you have Burglar B speak there, but leave the churches alone which allow Burglar A and his party speak. He will tell you that your relationship with your God is personal and private and that no government can tell you when and where you can praise your God. He will acknowledge that freedom exists for the right and the left, not just the left.

Now, which of the burglars do you keep out and which do you allow into your house? Oh, and one last thing, after Burglar A does all this, he will stab you in the gut to kill the child within your womb, and tell you that its for your health.
May God have mercy on our souls!
