After studying visual arts and communication at Guilford College, a small Quaker, Liberal Arts school in Greensboro, NC, I worked for PhotoQuick, Inc., providing the only hand processed and printed black and white service in Chapel Hill, NC. I then made a move from the traditional darkroom to a pre-press environment at Triangle Web Printing in Durham, NC. While working with mechanical graphic arts was a great learning experience, I was more interested in design and using my creativity. So after nearly four years in the printing industry, I began to look for employment in the publishing and computer imaging sectors. It was during this time that I was lucky enough to marry my best friend and advisor, Wendy McMillan... The ensuing job search made it obvious that I needed to bulk up my computer knowledge. The printing experince was good, and employers thought creativity important, but without the skills to sit down and produce work on screen, I frankly wasn't worth much. Fortunately, I found a school in Raleigh, NC that offered me everything I lacked. Thus I began the Computer Graphic Design program at The School of Communication Arts, a private institution that has several programs centered around computer graphics and computer imaging. It was here that I obtained a firm grasp of much of the industry standard software as well as a feel for multi-media and web design.
Born in 1969 at Watts Hospital, now the North Carolina School of Science and Math, I remained clueless about the workings of the world for most of my childhood and juvenile and young adult years...
