THE STARR REPORT

To stand in the crowd, and look amazed
at people selling the Job of The Roman Emperor
in an auction.

To stand in the crowd, and watch amazed:
Constantinopole is burning in my fourteenth century.

And again in the crowd in Bartholomew night
when the catholics slaughtered the Hugenots;

And again in the crowd, and again and again,
To watch helplessly the great moments
of always contemporary history,

the great moments demeaning man.

But how many such great moments
have that truly ridiculous essence
of this Starr report?

And how many of you really know
how much depends on your opinion,
the way your country goes, Perhaps the balance of the world;
and will history remember you
as those feeble minded people
Those Shallow people
who changed their mind
from support to impeachment
of one of their greatest politicians
because of his Cigar.
