It is not right to bow

He is amazing.
No matter what you talk about,
ten minutes on the phone -
and you apologize.

It is not right to bow before someone
you don't even see.
Even if God was on the phone
you shouldn't be kneeling.

We are here to speak face to face,
or bow ourselves to the ground in front
of a greater one showing himself.

But we do not follow voices
and we do not follow fire
nor do we follow the great sound of water.

Sometimes an utter silence falls.
And facing that silence the laws of nature shudder:
for the birds should still sing
and the wind cannot stop,
and if they do,
why should we trust such laws as gravitation
or the continuity of time?

Sometimes a silence falls,
at sunset, or at dawn,
and makes us expectant:

Should a light unknown appear
at that moment of silence
we shall fall on our knees for the release of tension
and give our souls for the release of faith.
