Here is a chapter from, Riddle of the Foxfire Caverns, a story in progress by Snitter Longpaw

Ana's heart pounded as she began scrabbling up the high, steep bank. The shrews seemed to have no trouble in climbing it, nor did Robyn, whom she soon lost sight of in the crowd. She still had the Sword of Martin slung across her back; she needed all of her paws for climbing. Aside from being steep, the bank was also muddy, and very slippery. It seemed to the mousemaid that for every length she climbed upward, she slid back down two. Ana reached upward, desperately searching for pawholds. She grabbed hold of a root which portruded from the bank, using it to pull herself upwards- it snapped, leaving her hanging by one paw. Ana was swung out sideways as she struggled to gain a pawhold with her feet and she could see below her the wave of stoats rushing over the bank only to discover their quarry making for higher ground. Log-a-log's plan was obviously working, none of the stoats even stopped for a moment near the sealed entrance to the chamber, instead, the vermin came after the main force, who were nearly all over the top of the bank. Ana managed to struggle up another few feet. Her mind was racing. Would she be able to get to the top? Were the GUOSSSOM doomed for defeat? Would she ever see Redwall again? Ana could think no further thoughts, for, at that moment, she lost her footing entirely and found herself sliding backwards down the bank. She struggled, paws flailing wildly, but it was no use, she was on her belly sliding down, down towards the oncoming stoats. The shrews who were still coming up didn't seem to notice her, treading upon her paws, tail, even her head. Ana's fear escalated into panic, she knew she was in danger of being trampled, or worse, being left behind for the stoats. Ana was beginning to lose hope of making it up the bank when she felt a paw grip her arm. She looked up; there was Reith, his paws braced against a rock, holding onto her arm with all his strength. "Ana, grab my paw." He said through clenched teeth. Ana quickly obliged, and managed to scramble onto the rock beside him. At last, they reached the top, and not a moment too soon. As the last of the shrews rallied around Log-a-log (and Blarinor, who seemed to have gotten over his previous evening's disgrace rather quickly), Ana heard a savage snarl and turned to see Amaryl leap onto the bank, ears laid flat, fur standing on end, issuing a challenge in form of a loud hiss and a bloodcurdling yowl. The first of the stoats fell to Amaryll's claws, and the shrews began attacking the vermin from above, stabbing at them with rapiers and daggers; any stoats who made it up were dealt with by those shrews who had remained in the middle fo the clearing. The battle seemed to be going all to the shrews when a sudden shout from the far side of the clearing made them all glance up. The stoats were coming over the rocks! Before anyone else could react, Nebbie took charge of the situation. "I say, all archers an' spearbeasts over to the walls, let's show those vermin they bally well can't take us by surprise! Eeeulaliaa!" The hare led his band of archers over to the rocks where they proceded to pick off the stoats as fast as they showed their heads. But the distraction had worked. Stoats now were pouring into the clearing from both sides, the shrews were caught in the middle of a deadly sandwich movement. Ana was separated form Reith in the midst of the battle and soon found herself fighting a dozen or more stoats on the edge of a rock pit near the far right-paw side of the clearing. She swung the sword left and right, hoping she'd strike one of the foebeasts down in the process. The world became a blur, it was all steel, fangs and fur, whirling about at a dizzying pace. Ana heard a shout and looked up just in time to see a huge stoat coming at her with a deadly-looking saber raised above his head. There was no time to think. Not even to defend herself. Ana flinched slightly and turned her head as the stoat charged towards her. Suddenly, a reddish-coloured blur rocketed through the air over her head and landed in front of her, striking out fearlessly at the attacker with a short sword. Ana was knocked down when Robyn leaped over her, so she didn't see the stoat bring the saber down hard on the side of her friend's head, but she heard the young squirrel cry out in pain as the badle struck. Ana raised her head in time to see the stoat and the squirrel teetering on the edge of the pit, Robyn balanced on one footpaw as the stoat raised to strike again, and then both creatures dissappearing as they toppled over the edge. Ana didn't have time to find out what happened to them after that, for she was being attacked again herself. But this time she was not overwhelmed, for as she rose to meet the attack, she felt the lingering affect of Robyn's pain, she felt a hot wave of injustice rising, she felt a rage like none she had ever known before. Stupid vermin! She swung the sword in a wide arc, heard it sign through the air, felt the impact as it detatched the head of the nearest stoat from its shoulders. You stupid vermin! You don't know when to quit, do you? She felled two with one blow. You just have to kill innocent creatures to satisfy your own greed. "Robyn was trying to protect me, you stupid, brainless idiots!!!" Ana's sight became tinged with red as she fought her way through the horde. She whirled the sword with as much ease as if it had weirghed nothing at all. Vermin fell left and right before her, and her anger did not subside. "This is for the shrews, who you wanted to massacre!" Two more stoats fell. "This is for all the innocent creatures you have killed!" Another met his fate. "This is for All good creatures everywhere!" Three fell at once, the bloodwrath was fully upon Ana now. "And this-" she raised the sowrd high- "is for Robyn!!!" She brought the blade down hard and slew the last stoat who challenged her. Now the red mist was beginning to clear. Ana looked around, as though she didn't know where she was. The shrews were milling about, searching for any more stoats, but they found none but those whose bodies littered theclearing. Some of the shrews began to cheer: There vermin were defeated! But their cheers reached Ana's ears as though they were from far away. She felt herself begin to shake. The sword slipped from her grasp as she sank to her knees. She curled up on the bloodied grass and began to cry.
