Hartford Courant  Honors Criterion's  DiVincenzo With Connecticut Journalism Award

By Cathy Rojas

The Criterion's  David DiVincenzo was honored by The  Hartford Courant  with a Connecticut Journalism Award for his critical review of the film, Romeo  and Juliet.

"I don't know why I'm shaking your hand. You're going to put me out of a job in a few years!" quipped Courant film critic Deborah Hornblow, as she presented DiVincenzo the award at a luncheon in Hartford.

"David not only demonstrates an excellent command of the English language, but also in depth knowledge of his subject material. His lead really got me going," added Hornblow, who served as a judge in the competition.

The  Courant  invites every high school in the state to submit student entries of articles which were published during the 96-97 school year.

"I was thrilled it happened for David. He's a very good kid with a real passion for film, art, and writing. He was up against the best high school writers in the state. It's a great honor for him and for our school," said Criterion  advisor Frank Alagno.

DiVincenzo, a senior, will attend Southern Connecticut State University in the fall. His award winning review of Baz Luhrman's 1996 version of Shakespeare's appeared in the November, 1996 Edition.
