At this point you may be wondering to yourself, "however did this dignified, respectful page come into being?" I hope you will not be too disappointed to learn that it originated during a fit of silliness during the author's first trip to New York City. Two of my friends were sometime ago struck with a great fondness for the Titanic musical, and when I came to visit, it seemed natural that I should see it with them. After the show, they introduced me to Michael Cerveris, whom I simply adored in The Who's Tommy. In Titanic, Michael portrays Andrews. He spent several minutes chatting with us in the March cold (without putting his hat on, poor man!) and I had my picture taken with him. Mr. Andrews was already my favorite Titanic personality, mainly due to Victor Garber's characterization in Cameron's Titanic. Garber was currently starring in Yasmina Reza's excellent play Art, which I highly recommend. After the show I just had to stop him to shake his hand and thank him for making me cry in Titanic and making me laugh in Art. Well, that's what I intended to say--I'm not really sure if it came out right! He was very gracious (and tall!), signed my Playbill, and posed for a photograph. Do you begin to see the pattern? I began mentioning that it would be amusing to do a website called Thomas Andrews & Me as a home for my pictures of these talented men. I was encouraged. Sometime during this trip, we also spent some time browsing in bookstores. I happened to pick up a copy of Her Name, Titanic by Charles Pellegrino and began to scan the first few pages. It was there I read about Thomas taking his wife to see the ship in her cradle by the light of Halley's comet. As soon as I got home, I found a copy of the book and read it in its entirety. It was from there that my fascination began to grow and I decided that Andrews deserved a serious page. Now that you've seen the serious part, please enjoy the pictures of Michael Cerveris and Victor Garber, courtesy of the website formerly known as Thomas Andrews & Me:
