A Black Man's Vision

It appears that from the time I was born
I never had a chance

For I feel that my livelihood
Lies in the hand of a white man

It all started 400 years ago
And told through song

And now some 400 years later
His hate still lives on

For my daily oppression
Keeps me forever stressing

Now I focus my aggression on my progression
So I'm forever checking

On ways to carry me and my people
All the way to the top

Cause the white man still thinks he can hold us down
But hold me down I think not

For I have plans mapped out
To reach my goals

So I do as my ancestor did
And strengthen my soul

Cause without my soul
I'm just a shell of a man

And without family and friends to reach my goals
I don't think I ever can
