Well ..by all accounts, the Buffalo Summer of 98..has to rank up there
with one of the all time Weatherwise greats!!
Lots of fun and sun and little rain.
# 1 - Best part - The BIRTH OF Joshua Francis!!!
August 27th!
AND # 2
A wonderful visit with Dad..enjoying his races at the Buffalo Canoe Club.
Dad competed in the "Masters" Regatta, portion of the Lightning North Americans.
He used Larry MacDonalds Jrs. (World Champion), boat
and had Ian Jones and Jody Swanson as crew.
The first race went as expected..They WON! by a country mile. All was well with the world!
Next day..not as planned!! They made mistakes..everywhere, including fouling Bill Shore. In the process of doing their penalty turns..Dad fell overboard and Jody had to throw him a life jacket! They ended up 17th out of 30 boats.
Third day...Well, they WERE First at the First mark!!! and then ...they finished 7th..ahhhh, if only.......
So, that was the way it happened...the overall finish was not too bad considering....they ended up 7th.
Dad said Jody and Ian have booked him as their Fearless Skipper
when he turns 80 (shhh..that's only 3 years away!).
There were wonderful parties for all the participants and it was great seeing so many of Mom and Dads friends,
the North Americans drew over 100 boats for the following week.
But Dad and Sara ..headed out of town to see Sara's grandaughter performing in a play on Long Island. Dad is expected to have his "loose screw" knee..redone in October.
And so..I had to say good bye. Great visit.!
**Trivia**...My Dad WON the First "ever" Masters Regatta!!
