Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a non-profit,
international, public service organization, was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two
women at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Since its inception, the sorority has grown
to an organization of 800 chapters with more than 200,000 members nationally and
internationally. The Akron Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has existed
since 1960 and has remained steadfast in its commitment to scholarship, leadership and
service.
Accomplishments
Delta Sigma Theta Sororitys accomplishments include:

The sorority
sponsors a night of fitness and sisterhood at
YMCA Balch Street fitness facility annually. |

The sorority sponsors a yearly Holiday Party for community residents.
From 1998-2000,
the chapter provided season's greetings to women and families of a local
homeless/battered
women's shelter. |

The sorority has sponsored events related to Breast Cancer and
HIV/AIDs issues
associated with African American women. |

The sorority sponsors a yearly Debutante Cotillion for area high school
seniors that encourages them to explore social issues, personal development and
scholarship opportunities. The event provides thousands of dollars in
scholarship money every year. |

The sorority supports the College Fund each year. |
 |
The sorority supports the BECOME program. |
 |
The chapter
celebrated it's 40th Anniversary in 2000. |
