Week Five

journal

06/30/02 (Sun.)- This morning I woke up and Addae had shed!!! He got it all in one beautiful piece as well. Hard to tell a true difference since it was 5:30am (groan) and he's albino. He certainly did seem shinier though. :) Now I'll have to take a picture and measure him with that very nifty program. I look forward to it and am just thrilled that his shed went so easily! If only Laini could stop mangling hers up. :) I'm sure she'll improve with age though.

I went ahead and got Addae three adult mice which he ate up quite happily. Now he'll be busy digesting so I'll have to leave him alone. :( Laini had a definite surprise for me when I got her out today! She stayed out for about half an hour or so and we let her explore around us on the bed. She's very curious and is getting more confident with us as time progresses. Well, when I put her back, she was amazingly active! For at least half an hour longer (I got sleepy after twenty minutes, had to get up at 5am. :P) she was all over her enclosure. On the water pool first, then climbing the branch and over her log hide. I was so thrilled! :) I got to see how she gets up to the top edge around the tank as well. It seems less as though she's trying to escape and more like she's trying to bask under the light I have there now. Interesting. She might also just enjoy it because sometimes she'll go up on the cool side of the tank and just sit there. She takes about four or five tries to successfully get up and she is far less graceful coming down. :( Poor baby. :) She was also burrowing happily around and just generally being very active. Yay.

07/01/02 (Mon.)- Well, Addae was obviously digesting today so he got left alone. :) When I woke up this morning, Laini was out again! She was partially burrowed and sticking about 1/4 of her body up just kind of looking around. It was wonderful to see that she's still keeping her activity up! Later, however, she was much more reclusive but I did have Rachel over who normally doesn't stop by...so perhaps that was it. Anyway though, I am just delighted with all the changes and glad it's taken her less than a year to get more comfortable! :) With any luck, she'll remain like this and I'll get some fantastic photographs of her. She looks so striking curled around her branch, it's just gorgeous! I also ordered a digital camera by Fuji yesterday and it should arrive this Friday. They will definitely be the most common of my subjects for a long time to come. :) I look forward to being able to take Addae out tomorrow for some more socialization. Hopefully Matt will also be willing to hold him. Now that he's all fed he should be much more interested in being social. :) I hope to get a picture of him to measure, I haven't had any luck thusfar. On Sunday he was too fidgety before eating to take any and of course after he was in hunting mode and NOT a good candidate for 'lap photography'. :)

07/02/02 (Tues.)- Wow. This week has been so strange so far! I guess because I had to work early Sunday it just hasn't felt right. Odd. Plus, I have Thursday off work for the 4th so that will make it even more strange. Ah well! :) I'm really looking forward to tonight and holding Addae and Laini. I'm hoping she will remain active from this point on especially since she eats tomorrow and then she'll go hide again for a couple days. Blargh. Addae seems to be less self-conscious about that, probably because he's larger, but even he takes refuge in his log after he eats. Can't blame them for wanting privacy while digesting! :) In anycase, tonight will be the test of whether or not I can get a good 'above' picture of him with a ruler so I can measure him again. I still haven't measured the picture of Laini yet...for shame. :( I honestly have been busy with class and all, so at least I have a reason. Anyway, very much looking forward to it. The camera should definitely arrive on Friday from what I've been able to confirm. If sooner, awesome. :)

07/03/02 (Wed.)- Well, I didn't get Addae out. He seems to be taking slightly longer to digest three mice and since my diet upped him from one a week I think I should give him more time. :) He has seemed very content however and I changed his water right above his head and though he was a little nervous, he still stayed there. Such a good boy! :) He's so beautiful and so well-tempered I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to rescue him. I can't understand how someone can get a pet and then not feed them properly, I think it's just terrible. Ah well, enough of that. :)

Laini came out again tonight and I held her for about thirty minutes. She was very active and curious and so we wandered around for a while. I also gave her some fresh water but she wasn't thirsty so I am confident that she feels much more secure in her terrarium now. I'm very glad. I've been considering putting some live plants in when I upgrade her to a larger tank. Not sure currently but I suppose we'll see. It would certainly look beautiful but I'm a bit concerned about the moisture level. It's something to look into though and I'll probably post some questions to the groups. I cannot wait to get pictures of them!!! I'm so excited. That little pc cam I have only stretches about 10 feet so it can't even really reach Laini's tank. That was quite disappointing. However, with the new digital and the filters I should be able to take beautiful shots right through the sides. I hope to have tons of quality shots to post! Hooray.

07/04-07/02 (Wed-Sat.)- Okay, shamefully I have not updated in quite a while. :( I am agrieved deeply by this so I will attempt to make up for it here. Thursday was the 4th and we did holiday things and attended a lovely party at Rebecca's complete with wonderful food and amazing fireworks. Her place is incredible. Friday I went to work and afterwards did indeed get my camera. The rest of the weekend was pretty much spent testing out my camera on friends, flowers, and (of course) snakes. :) My dogs also got in on it and it was very amusing. All in all, I was pretty pleased. I love the camera and am thrilled with the results! Lots of snakey pics now without having to haul my cheesy little pc camera over, and vastly better quality images! :D Awesome. I'm in bliss!
