BASIC TRAINING

The Army's called my son away.

Ft. Leonardwood is where he'll stay.

He now must answer Duty's call;

Honor holds him straight and tall.

He will serve our country well,

Ensure the fate of the Liberty Bell.

So far away from home he'll go,

Protecting Peace from dangerous foe.

They'll train him to the very bone.

He's one of them...yet all alone.

He's owned by Uncle Sam, you see.

And yet he still belongs to me.

I read these letters from my son;

Each day I read them, one by one.

I hear his words. They pierce my mind.

In search of answers he can't find.

Homesick, proud, no more afraid;

Accomplishments, and choices made.

Just a natural Christian boy,

He writes his fear of the "Devil's toy."

And yet I know within my heart

That he will proudly do his part

To serve our nation with the rest,

Who now proclaim, "We are the best!"
