Apples:

Remember the one a day adage and make it your moto! ...

One apple provides approximately 4.3 grams of fiber, most in the insouluable form that prevents constipation and may protect against colon cancer. The rest is pectin, the fiber component that studies have shown lower cholesterol levels. Apples are high in potassium, protecting against stroke, and a great sourceof the mineral boron which may help protect against calcium losses and osteoporosis.

Apricots:

Natures sweet-tart treat...

A fruit overflowing with beta-carotene and fiber, cancer fighters. Beta-carotene is the plant form of vitamin A and may provide anitcancer activity. Studies have shown a protective effect in the stomach, colon, and cervix. Apricots are high in potassium and low in sodium for blood pressure control and stroke protection.

Articholes:

Fiber galore!...

One medium artichoke has more fiber then a whole bowl of oat-bran cereal. They have enough vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, calciu, magnesium, and potassium to help combate stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Eating an artichoke takes time, and eating slowly aides in digestion.

Asparagus:

A spring time treat full of nutrition...

About 12 medium spears contain 30 percent of the RDA of vitamin A and a high amout of vitamin A and potassium. A great cancer fighter and help with high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.

Avocados:

Rich, creamy and healthy...

Avocados have a high conted o heart-smart monounsaturated fat. The same fat predoominat in olive oil that can actually help lower cholesterol levels in the body. Rich in potassium and low in sodium for double protection against high blood pressure and stroke. Somewhat high in calories but worth every one for its beneficial effects on the body.

Bananas:

Like the apple a cure for many ills...

High in potassium and magnesium. They can combat certain types of diarrhea and ease constipation because of there high fiber content.

Barley:

A tasty high-fiber grain...

High in fiber barley helps reduce cholesterol levels and fight certain types of cancer. Its low sodium content is good for high blood pressure.

The two most common forms of barley are Scotch and pearled. Scotch retains the bran and therefore has more fiber; soak overnight before cooking. Pearled has had its bran layer removed in processing.
