Anytime we use the word "healing" in this courses we mean "spiritual healing". That means that it is emotional, psychospiritual advancement or enlightenment that is sought for. Healing and Curing are two different things. Curing means the symptoms are all gone. Healing means that a spiritual awakening has occured. This can trigger the bodys own natural defenses into action.
In this course we are going to be introducing you to two different kinds of healing systems. One is Reiki and the other is Etheric Energy Healing. We will be learning how to do the Etheric Energy Healing too. Unlike Reiki it is not a "touch" system. Reiki requires the hands on treatment. We will also do techniques of visualization, mind over matter, and candle lighting.
We will be looking at Reiki, its history and the concept of "lineage" and how the conflicting historys it has causes concerns for todays practicioner. We will be expolring the three main branches of Reiki today so that you can make an informed decision about what feels right for you.We will also have a selection of Reiki sites to check out.
Throught the course we will make comparisons and do exercises using both types of healing. In Etheric Healing we are working above the body at about 6-12 inches away from it. Reiki and both systems are complimentary and work well together. In fact in Reiki this Etheric Energy Healing method is called "Aura Smoothing".
Etheric Energy healing is method that I learned in several places, firstly from Wicca. Then from a wise old man who was a spiritual healing master. He had channelled this method in and developed it himself. .He was insipred by his visions and was very much like a modern day Edgar Cayce. I feel that this old man was getting info from the same Tibetan Masters as Alice Bailey or someone connected to healing in Tibet. Maybe even the original Reiki masters. He was very enlightened. He had healed his own cancer.
Most of the healing systems out there now are very much like this one such as Louise Hay and The Healing Power in Your Hands. This is a similiar "hands -off" treatment . The "hands- off" method in Reiki is called Aura Smoothing
We will delve well into the once secret mysteries of the first and second "degree" of Reiki. In its simplest form using Reiki is simply the practitioner placing their hands on the recipient with the intent of bringing healing, and allowing for Reiki energy to flow. There is a set of traditional hand positions taught .
A level II Reiki practitioner can send healing to a recipient regardless of distance. The Etheric Energy Healing practicioner can do this immediately. However this is because there are no degrees, or secret symbols or aristocratic "lineages" in it.
I worked with Lynn Andrews and Starhawk and several Native American healers. I feel that these people and most women all ready "have" a sort of Reiki. Reiki is a Universal Life Force. It is an energy that permeates all living things.
This is the same force that is common to all disciplines of healing energy work. It is not just something that you suddenly acquire by having a Reiki Degree attunement performed on you. It is the life force energy you have the moment you take your first breath and will remain with you throughout your life.

A "new" healing technique is being used among Witches. Reiki is a system for healing body and spirit brought about by tapping into "universal healing energy", according to teachings originating with Mikao Usui of Japan, who discovered the techniques in the late 1800s. Though it's not really new, it has only recently become more accessible after its introduction to the West in the late 1940s.
Reiki is usually performed by laying-on of hands, and incorporates the visualization of special "symbols" and hand positions which facilitate energy channeling. The symbols come from kanji (Japanese) characters possibly deriving from Sanskrit. The energy healing is also facilitated by contact with "guide" entities who help to direct the practitioner's work. To learn Reiki, the student completes a series of Reiki initiations, called attunements, as part of a three- or four-degree system (whose steps are called Reiki I, II, and III and or Master). At first level, one learns to channel healing energy for physical healing; at second level, one learns to channel healing energy that can be sent through distance and time. Higher levels increase the power of the channel, and train for teaching. Each level of training often takes place over a weekend, or may be offered in a multi-week course.
Many of the details of Reiki's techniques are considered secret, like a Witch's oathbound material. Even the most free-spirited practitioners seem to agree that the techniques cannot be learned from books, but only through the attunements. However, enough basic information is now available to those with interest, even to help sort out some of the differences and similarities among the many branches of Reiki. Some of those most often heard of are TJR (Traditional Japanese Reiki, from followers of Usui); Rand style Reiki (Usui's teachings via William Rand of the Center for Reiki Training); the Reiki Alliance, founded by a descendant of Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the West; and Diane Stein's style, sometimes called Usui Tibetan.
Another thing that has kept Reiki away from most people has been its cost. A degree often cost over $10,000, but through the controversial efforts of some practitioners, that has decreased by a factor of 100 or more in some traditions. While Usui felt that Reiki was not used wisely when he offered it freely, and insisted that practitioners charge for teaching and healing, the amount is under dispute. One may sometimes find training and healing for free. For example, Stein has given dozens of attunements at women's festivals across the country; some metaphysical shops offer share sessions for practitioners, and sometimes those sincerely seeking healing are invited in at nominal or no cost.
Why are Witches getting involved with Reiki? The Horns & Crescent interviewed a handful of practicing Witches from around Eastern Massachusetts, who are also using Reiki for hands-on and distance healing, supplemental to or separately from other healing forms. They have found Reiki beneficial, and adaptable to the practice of Witchcraft. Some also say that Reiki has had a positive impact on their Wiccan healing work. However, like the rest of the Reiki world, they don't necessarily agree on the issue of payment for teaching or healing.
Blackbird Dreaming, a Wiccan Rev. High Priestess from Cape Cod, sees Reiki as "a bridge between different paths." She has been practicing Reiki for about 2 years out of 10 to 12 years of spiritual and hands-on healing experience, and "as a skeptic", found it exciting that when combining Reiki and spellwork, such as in the Reiki candles she makes and gives away on the anniversary of becoming a Reiki master, there is much additional benefit. She calls the energy "turbo!"
Blackbird teaches three different brands of Reiki and their symbols -- what the differences are, why they supposedly don't go together, and how they can work together. They can all be used in any particular situation; all essentially derive from Usui. William Rand "made up extra symbols. That's what Witches do too! Use intuition and inspiration to create new symbols." She considers Stein a pioneer and revolutionary. "People were reluctant to give Reiki to Witches - they knew that Witches would give it away, or barter."
