MY FAVE TRACKS

Origin "Wide Eyed Angel" (Real Audio sample)
Origin are Anthony Mein and Dave Wood,
label bosses of Steel Yard Recordings http://www.steelyardmusic.com music

Paul van Dyk "For an Angel" (Real Audio/Windows Media sample can be found on amazon.com)
This song brings back so many good memories. First, my raver name was Angel, so it had personal meaning to me when it would come on. Also, one of my DJ buddies from our Ravelinks crew, PB Matt, used to play this song in my honor. Isn't that sweet? Always made me feel good to dance to. music

BBE "Seven Days and One Week - Moguai Mix" (Real Audio sample)
One of the first trance anthems,
this 1996 track can be heard on many compilations and found on BBE's CD called "Games". music

Binary Finary "1998-Matt Darey mix" (Real Audio sample)
OH MY GOD! This song, by Matt Laws, a.k.a. Binary Finary...I can't even describe to you how much it captured me...this is probably the one song that got me into the rave scene. I used to visit the Binary Finary website and just play the sample over and over and over and...well, you get the idea. music

Adam F "Circles" (7:13 Full-length Real Audio)
"Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick"...this 1996 drum and bass anthem was one of the first D&B songs that I fell in love with. It was so cool that many of my raver buddies had never heard of it, despite it having won "Single of the Year" at some awards show. I kinda liked that about it! music

Trance Control "This is My HOUSE" (Click to go to the Trance Control official page to hear their music. Unfortunately, "This is my HOUSE" doesn't seem to be among the songs available for download.)
This group is a total Internet success story. They were the #1 downloaded group on mp3.com and came out with a CD, which I bought! music

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT RAVES

from the ~Studio 54 website
(http://www.purerave.com/~studio54/index.html)

Artwork by Celeste

~Glowing teeth under flourescent lights. ~People who dance with glowsticks. ~People who pass water around especially when I really need it. ~Dancing around backpack piles. ~Using whistles to hype up the crowd. ~"Facing off" with someone on the dance floor and getting a smile. ~Dancing in front of a massive speaker stack, and watching your shirt flutter with every beat. ~Walking out of a dusty warehouse at 8:00 am, feeling the sun on your face, and looking up at a clear blue sky. ~When people come over to you and go "Dude, what are you on?? You gotta be the happiest guy in here"...and you're not on anything. ~Trancing watching people dance when the whole crowd moves like a wave. ~Getting about a million goose bumps the moment before a song absolutely explodes with energy. ~That cold rush when you put Vap-o-rub on your face. ~People who bring in backpacks full of "rave goodies" (Blowpops, bottled water that is actually cold, pixy sticks, glitter, etc.). ~Looking around the floor when you're dancing and knowing that everyone of those people is having as much fun as you. ~Reaching for the lasers, seeing if you can hold one, just to make sure you aren't tripping. ~When people that you have never seen treat you like their best friend. ~Talking to a newcomer, then seeing her almost every weekend after that. ~Going out of my way to tell the DJs that they are really good. ~Feeling like you could run a few miles the last 10 minutes of a rave, then falling asleep on the way home. ~Having breakfast the morning after with friends, and the waitress going "you kids didn't sleep well last night did ya?" if she only knew...... ~The "I am deaf for life" feeling as you are walking out. ~Singing disco songs on the way to and from the party. ~Knowing what that person who just bumped into you is about to say. You saying it before they do. ~Hysterically laughing for no reason. ~Leaving your backpack somewhere for two hours, then coming back to see that it wasn't moved or even opened. ~Watching people talk to walls and speakers and stuff. ~Singing cheesy songs in line and before you know it there are about a hundred or so kids singing along. ~When you can yell out "my friend is puking anyone have any candy??" and 5 hands will shoot up in the air above the crowd with pixi stix and suckers. ~Socializing in the bathroom line. ~Seeing one of your friends, not on any drugs, just start crying in the middle of the dancefloor because the party is SO GOOD and he doesn't know what to do. ~A smile from across the room has a different meaning. ~Knowing that if you are in any trouble, any amount of those kids that you don't know will come and help you. ~Walking in and seeing everyone you know and you feel so cool because all the kids are your friends. ~You can ask someone for a drink of their water and they won't look at you like a crazy stranger..they smile and pass it over. ~Just the feeling of "if they only knew.. while they were all asleep." ~Standing in the shower the next morning being able to close your eyes and be back at the party, as black grime, and rave smell washes down the drain. ~Being able to hear the bass thumping in your brain long after you've left the party. ~Leaving with half eaten ring pops on your finger and half empty candy necklaces around your neck. ~Being so excited to see the people that you haven't seen in so long...even though to this day you still don't know their name. ~Walking up to a complete stranger just to tell them "I think you're cute" and not have them give you a strange look, like you were trying to pick them up or something..nah, I was just being nice. ~Realizing how many friends you've made because of this music. ~Seeing the same kids at three different parties in three different states. ~That moment when someone you've seen a million times smiles at you and comes over and starts talking to you for the first time. ~Free parties. ~Strangers who come up to you and tell you that they love the way you dance. ~Random hugs. ~Going to another city for a party and meeting people who ask you if you need a place to crash afterwords. ~The person who took you to your first party.

RAVER MANIFESTO

Our nourishment of choice is Love.
Our addiction of choice is technology.
Our religion of choice is music.
Our currency of choice is knowledge.
Our politics of choice is none.
Our society of choice is utopian though we know it will never be.

You may hate us.
You may dismiss us.
You may misunderstand us.
You may be unaware of our existence.

We can only hope you do not care to judge us, because we would never judge you.
We are not criminals.
We are not disillusioned.
We are not drug addicts.
We are not naive children.
We are one massive, global, tribal village that transcends man-made law, physical geography, and time itself.
We are The Massive. One Massive.
We were first drawn by the sound.

From far away, the thunderous, muffled, echoing beat was comparable to a mother's heart soothing a child in her womb of concrete, steel, and electrical wiring.
We were drawn back into this womb, and there, in the heat, dampness, and darkness of it, we came to accept that we are all the same.
We came to accept that we are all equal.
Not only to the darkness, and to ourselves, but to the very music slamming into us and passing
through our souls;
We are all equal - and somewhere around 35Hz we could feel the hand of God at our backs, pushing us forward, pushing us to push ourselves to
strengthen our minds, our bodies, and our spirits. Pushing us to turn to the person beside us to join hands and uplift them by sharing the uncontrollable
joy we felt from creating this magical bubble that can, for one evening, protect us from the horrors, atrocities, and pollution of the outside world.

It is in that very instant, with these very realizations that each of was truly born.
We continue to pack our bodies into clubs, or warehouses, or buildings you've abandoned and left for naught, and we bring life to them for one night.

Strong, throbbing, vibrant life in it's purest, most intense, most hedonistic form.
In these makeshift spaces, we seek to shed ourselves of the burden of uncertainty for a future you have been unable to stabilize and secure for us.

We seek to relinquish our inhibitions, and free ourselves from the shackles and restraints you've put on us for your own peace of mind.
We seek to re-write the programming that you have tried to indoctrinate us with since the moment we were born.

Programming that tells us to hate, that tells us to judge, that tells us to stuff ourselves into the nearest and most convenient pigeon hole possible. Programming that even tells us to climb ladders
for you, jump through hoops, and run through mazes and on hamster wheels.
Programming that tells us to eat from the shiny silver spoon you are trying to feed us with, instead of nourish ourselves with our own capable hands. Programming that tells us to close our minds, instead of open them.

Until the sun rises to burn our eyes by revealing the distopian reality of the world you've created for us, we dance fiercely with our brothers and sisters
in celebration of our life, of our culture, and of the values we believe in:

Peace, Love, Unity, Respect, Responsibility, Freedom, Tolerance, Harmony and Expression.

Our enemy of choice is ignorance.
Our weapon of choice is information.
Our crime of choice is breaking and challenging whatever laws you feel you need to put in place to stop us from celebrating our existence.

But know that while you may shut down any given party, on any given night, in any given city, in any
given country or continent on this beautiful planet, you can never shut down the entire party. You don't have access to that switch, no matter what you may think.

The music will never stop.
The heartbeat will never fade.
The party will never end.

I am a RAVER, and this is my manifesto.

Some Things to Ask Yourself

by Quentin and Nicole (qrogers@islandnet.com)
Ask Yourself- why are you here.
Ask Yourself- what makes you happy & how can you obtain it.
Ask Yourself- why you dance.
Ask Yourself- how wealthy you are.
Ask Yourself- what true wealth means to you.
Ask Yourself- how you can share that wealth with the world.
Ask Yourself- whether you're being honest with yourself & your friends.
Ask Yourself- whether you will be comfortable with the choices you make today later in your life.
Ask Yourself- why come to these gatherings.
Ask Yourself- what these gathering do for you.
Ask Yourself- what message the DJ is sending with their music.
Ask Yourself- whether you trust yourself.
Ask Yourself- whether that trust should be given away blindly to every person, promoter, DJ, or event that comes along.
Ask Yourself- whether you know a promoter, WHY he/she is doing a party, and what their track record is.
Ask Yourself- whether you are recieving value and where your dollars go. IS a promoter taking more than giving?
Ask Yourself- how an event contributes positivily to the energy of your scene and your life.
Ask Yourself- whether you are asking more of others than you are prepared to do yourself.
Ask Yourself- how YOU can help your scene grow and flourish, as well as contribute to the success of the events you attend.
Ask Yourself- whether you need rest, nourishment or water.
Ask Yourself- wheather healthy stuff is available. Demand it if it isn't.
Ask Yourself- if you would like to share it.
Ask Yourself- what your reasons are for (not) doing the drugs you do.
Ask Yourself- whether you know EXACTLY what you are ingesting and what it does to your body.
Ask Yourself- what motives are behind the information that comes your way.
Ask Yourself- if you need time alone to find your truth.
Ask Yourself- how you can share that truth with others who are willing to listen.
Ask Yourself- how your lifestyle impacts our planet - live accordingly.
Ask Yourself- why positive energy attracts positive energy.
Ask Yourself- BECAUSE ULTIMATELY THE ANSWERS COME FROM WITHIN
