HELP ZONE

Legislation and caselaw virtual law libraries are at Austlii and ScalePlus.

Both hold South Australian legislation, South Australian Regulations and a number of Supreme Court decisions, from 1989 onwards.
All High Court Reports from 1943 are here, as well as most Federal court decisions and Commonwealth legislation and cases.

Austlii is easier to use. It is virtually impossible to search SCALEPLUS using a text based browser such as Lynx- don't bother with this site unless you are using a browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.

At Austlii, use the word "and" in between each keyword, in the Sino search engine.

For example, "Karpany and Bromley and identification and corroboration" will turn up Derek Bromley's High Court appeal (argued in1987). This is the ALRM case which brought the UK case of R. v Turnbull (on identification evidence) into South Australian law.

Typing in "Karpany" without selecting a database will turn up every case in which the word "Karpany" is used anywhere in regulations, legislation and judgments, 100 links at a time.

Selecting the South Australian Supreme Court database and typing in "Karpany" will not turn up Karpany and Bromley v R. The Full Court decision was pre-1989, and the High Court decision is not in the South Australian Supreme Court database.

The South Australian Acts you will need are:-

Bookmark them in your browser.

WARNING FOR SOLICITORS AND FIELD OFFICERS

Sometimes you will be accessing the Internet using connections which belong to other organisations.

When you "borrow" Internet access, don't go to games sites or porn sites or any other sites like that.

Many organisations are audited to ensure that staff are only using the Internet for work related activities.

If you use another organisation's Internet access, don't put the organisation at risk of losing its access by going to sites which couldn't possibly be work related.
