I was about nine when the Karass formed (I am now 33, you do the math) and it has played a role in my daily activities ever since. Unique phone numbers, appreciation for the creative (no matter how strange), taste in music, the need to express myself "ci ematically", literate conversation, and activities that involve pursuits of VERY disparate origin are all things I attribute to watching as the "founding members" pontificated the extreme, while balanced on Coke-cases shoulder to shoulder around my step- athers dining room table (occasionally ingesting Junipitar to add spice to the proceedings). Though it all the black "glue" that held everyone together was the coffee that everybody doctored just a little differently, consequently the need for the Chart- -Coffee. I don't know how effective the cyber-version of this is going to be (considering that none of YOU are currently in the kitchen pouring a mug for ME) but, fortunately, traditions die hard. Sooo... I prefer mine in a large mug, one that will acco modate all four fingers through the handle, doctored as listed above. Thank-you kindly.

How strong?: Hearty - but not *too* strong
Sugar?: Yes- 2 heaping teaspoons
Cream?: 1/2 and 1/2 is a must
Other contaminant?: brandy is nice at night
Comments:
I really like my coffee in a mug. It's got to be one of thoese mugs that come from *someplace* like 'Hard Rock Cafe' or 'New Orleans'. Coffee is, and has always been, a tradition aroung our house. We like to make a pot and sit around the table (some t mes on coke cases if we run out of chairs) and just talk... Now with the net... we 'talk' over the wire and I miss the sitting around with the coffee mugs long into the night... maybe with a game of 'Go' or working out the math for an Astrology chart... BTW, there *realy* is an 'original' Karas Coffee Chart... I found it this weekend behind the sofa... and left it there... some day, if I don't get 'gray sidings' I'll take out the old 'blad and shoot it for the site... or maybe Airwug-1 will show up and tell me to 'get off my butt' and take it now... 'till then, I'll just sip my coffee. Iso

How strong?: 'bout right
Sugar?: Yes
Cream?: or reasonable facsimile
Other contaminant?: Not usually but French Vanilla is sometimes nice
Comments:
I usually have a large mug of coffee in the morning, which goes to work with me. I prefer coffee that is not hot enough to melt wax.

How strong?: average (no decaf for me!)
Sugar?: definitly yes!
Cream?: This, too, I add
Other contaminant?: Irish Cream cocoa
Comments:
Unlike many of the Karassians, I don't drink coffee every day. I consider it a cold-weather beverage. I take one of my BIG cups, put in a pack of Irish Cream-flavor cocoa, a heaping tsp of instant coffee, 2-3 tsp of sugar, 1 Tbsp of Swiss Miss creamer, tir the dry stuff around somewhat, then add a cup-and-a-half of extremely hot water! Occasionally I'll add a dollop of Bailey's Original Irish Cream (if I'm not going out) or use one of those flavored-chocolate coated spoons to stir the contents of the c p. YUM, YUM! All told, I probably drink no more than 25 cups of the concoction a year! (OTOH, Arnold doesn't drink ANYTHING that has caffeine in it! As far as I know, he doesn't even LIKE coffee!)

How strong?: Your choice
Sugar?: only when having cream
Cream?: only wnen having sugar
Other contaminant?: rarely
Comments:
The coffee should be
  • wet
  • caffeinated
  • lukewarm

My first cup in the morning is New Jersey style: lots of milk and fair amount of sugar.
During the day, most are Kansas style: no cream, no sugar.
This is most important in the cup in the car, since cream or sugar would promote growth of undesirable organisms. The plain coffee allows a cup that can be rinsed and refilled and never really washed.

How strong?: More than dangerous
Sugar?: not no but **** no
Cream?: the same
Other contaminant?: sometimes I toss in a green teabag
Comments:
The local coffee shop has a drink named for me... The Shorock Masochist. Take a large stein. Fill about one-third with ice. Keep dumping in espressos (6 min - up to 12) and throw in a cup of Gunpower tea. This is meant to be drunk within one minute.

How strong?: "color of tea!" according to a former co-worker.
Sugar?: 1 level teaspoon
Cream?: never!
Other contaminant?: not usually.
Comments:
My usual daily dose is three cups of home-brewed (1 part leaded to 3 parts decaf) and, except for an occasional cup of decaf with dessert, never after lunch.

How strong?: Opaque, at a minimum
Sugar?: Current weakness: 1 tsp.
Cream?: As with sugar, to disguise mediocrity
Other contaminant?: Corvosier, scotch or any good brandy
Comments:
I still have to rate the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans as the best place to enjoy a cup of coffee, which MUST be accompanied by bignettes (sp?). My daily habit is paid for by an employer with an eye toward the bottom line. Therefore, sugar and powdered cre mer are applied. With most home-brewed brands, I still enjoy it black. In more youthful times (during the Age of Experimentation), my brother Lewis and I would enjoy a half 'n half mix of hot coffee and tea which we called 'cofftea.'
