Highlights of Snoopy's first visit were the unveiling of the 10x10 (don't remember if it was a recent acquisition or had just been uncovered for the occaision) and ISTOHOW clearing the apartment (block?) in order to introduce Snoopy to the Cosmic Chimes. Even knowing that her neighbors behaved like that did not prevent her from moving in next door.
Tommy W. and Snoopy got married the same weekend that ISTOHOW and Deborah did, Christmas break 1975. By that time the Isobarbary was no longer geographically-centered. Did any Karrassian attend both weddings? (That's a question, not part of the trivia contest. I have no memory of being at Snoopy and Wojay's wedding, and I know Airwug, Noel, and Dwight were at mine.)
The reason ISTOHOW finally gave up on Rapidographs and their ilk as the only writing instruments worth using is that he started flying on business trips. It only took 10 or so trips for him to figure out that filling such a pen at sea level and then carrying it someplace where the atmospheric pressure is stabilized at the 6,000 foot value was invariably a messy proposition. The $15.00 pens were not worth $100.00 suits or even $30 shirts, so reluctantly he bid them farewell. Still have two or three with undamaged points, but they are merely curiousities filed in the same place as the slide rule (and, no, I couldn't find 'em if my life depended upon it...)
In case anyone wonders why I have time to type such a lengthy note, it is because I am patiently (NOT) awaiting a fax from England. Until I receive it, I cannot be "online" to any of my e-mail addresses, and since composing this is more fun than, say, doing laundry or poking myself in the eye with a stick, it just seemed like a good time to catch up...
Addendum for the HTML version: I never did get the fax. I got a phone call that said instead they were e-mailing the documents to someone here in Plano who could copy them from one incompatible e-mail system to another that he could use to forward them to one of my coworkers, who could download them to a floppy disk and drop the floppy off for me on his way home. I needed to have them so I could prepare for a 5AM local time teleconference. All in all, woulda been easier to have flown to England.
> Snoopy's real name was Darlene and we met her

I recall Snoopy telling me part of the reason she was known as Snoopy; it had something to do with the Mickey Mouse Club having a girl named "Darlene".
> the Cosmic Chimes.
I don't remember ever hearing the Cosmic Chimes!
>Even knowing that her neighbors behaved like that did not prevent her from

It didn't keep me from moving in across the street either!
>the Rapidograph
Thanks to your explanation I now know what a "Rapidograph" is! I couldn't guess on what all the others were refering to! You know, you can still buy pens of that type; they're sold for calligraphy.
>More of the early Karass was drawn to the photography than to the
>writing instrument (a notable exception being ISTOHOW, who even years later
>could not be taught the difference between an f-stop and a focus).
Alas; I can't tell the difference between an f-stop and a focus either! I have one of those "idiots' delight" 35mm cameras.
>In case anyone wonders why ...
Many thanks from us for your "lengthy" note. It cleared up many of my questions (that were never sent!). BTW, did you know the phrase, "It's better than poking yourself in the eye with a sharp stick" is a quote from a Clint Eastwood western? I'm not sure which movie it is but I know I have it on tape!

>Layla - by Eric Clapton.... was the one I was refering to.... and it

That's what I said. After Cream (RIP) broke up Eric Clapton made one (legal) album with Blind Faith and then formed Derek and the Dominoes (help me AIRWUG - didn't they make more than one? Or is that another "one (legal)" situation...
Anyway, the "just before dawn" probably clinches it. The teenagers might've been finished moving in by then, and "hey, anybody playing THAT at this hour must want company..." seems like as natural an explanation as any...

Snoopy's wedding was most memerable... and, yes, i attended both... I remember walking to 'Hobbit' park (north of dauphin st nearly across from st catherines') with some of the boys and ? some other older folks ?. I seem to recall that Snoopy was wearing a long flowerly dress (and maybe so was Tommy)... but the boys ran to the far end of the park to play... it was a very 60's wedding... (even if it took place in 75) with a service that was straight from Haught-Ashberry...
iso
Hmmmm. Hobbit Park. Long flowery dress. Maybe I was there - or at least saw some good photos later.
My memory is most dim (due largely to teaching a bunch of artisticly impotent ignoramouses about cinematography) but was this the wedding when we managed to fit no less than TWELVE individuals into Mom's 1972 Toyota Corolla??
Cine-Paul
The very one. Reason: the engine blew up on the squareback halfway to Mobile.
Things are all falling into place now......
I remember the engine blowing up but I did not recall the relationship to the crammed Toyota.
>I don't remember ever hearing the Cosmic Chimes!
for arnold, and any others that are not in 'tune'. the cosmic chimes were a set of 4ft wrenches, about one inch thick, that, when hung by a string and tapped with an object (from a pencil to a hammer) would ring out a clear, and sometimes VERY loud tone.
iso
Actually, the clearest gentle chime came when holding the 4 ft one by the piano wire (?) provided for just that purpose and striking it with the 2 ft one made of the same material.
To which a further enhancement is provided:
The chimes must be sounded in as dark a room as possible with as little ambient noise as possible. After darkening and quieting the room, a proper interval of not less than 2 minutes should be observed before the chimes are rung. It is preferable that the uninitiated have not previously seen the chimes or know in any manner beforehand of their delicate tone.
Aside for the HTML version - this was exactly the way ISTOHOW "introduced" Snoopy to the Cosmic Chimes, no doubt because that's how he was introduced to them...
An additional variant which hindsight always provides in '20/20' is the construction of a trip switch, activated by sound, which would fire multiple strobe lights in close proximity to the uninitiated's dilated pupils.
AIRWUG 1
Ahhhh..... if you are refering to thoese 'tiny' erection-set wrenches...they most assuredly still exist (safely stored behind the garage door) and, if fact, do come out, from time to time to sound out clear, quiet tone for Maya and Dan (and whoever else is within earshot).iso
I had no idea that they had reintroduced the "tiny erection set wrenches" to the public. I guess this is an impotent item for discussion. I'm really not sure what they have to do with garages or quiet tones but I sure am glad that they have finally been "safely stored." But, I'm pretty sure that you need some cosmic chimes to get the phull effect.
Life is hell...

>they are merely curiousities filed in the same place as the slide rule (and,
>no, I couldn't find 'em if my life depended upon it...)
..... well, I can, and have found the ones I have left... even two that are in original boxes with virgin points. tried to give one to dan... but he was not into them at the time.... ('yuk... that's old stuff.. I want another computer to do more graphic rendering.....")

>The rapidograph retained its importance only as the means of updating its

ISOBARB finally dug up the Coffee Chart the other night. It didn't used to be brown did it?
Cine-Paul
ISTOHOW mentioned:
>Nobody ever answered my music trivia question. The way someone requested
>some music be added to the environment was to say "Let's see what
>Sheherazade has to say tonight." Of course, the resulting selection by Iso
>was usually NOT that particular work but that didn't matter. It usually WAS
>classical, though, Derek and the Dominoes notwithstanding.
Actually I seem to recal that a particular piece of music did get played somewhat more often than the others becoming so POPULAR that eventually ISOBARB banned it from EVER BEING PLAYED AGAIN!!!!! Points for remembering title and artist.
Cine-Paul
I need a time-frame hint. Were we "all" around when this happened?
Nope. But afterwords there was a distinct absence of Reel #91 as ISOBARB hid where it the kids (that being me and my bro's) couldn't get at it. And indeed it did NOT get airtime again till we moved to Birmingham, at which point ISOBARB was involved in the Honeywell 9to5 and it didn't matter if we played the same tape repeatedly.
