Fishturtle
Fishturtle was one of 3 creatures that I did for Darris's Creature Contest. It was also fortunate enough to place runner-up in the "Most creative" section. Like most of my creatures, he started out as a sketch that I did during a boring lecture. But unlike most of my recent creatures, he was not created using ThermoClay (my favorite plugin), but rather created with deformed spheres and metaballs. I rarely use metaballs, but I was feeling adventurous, so I took the plunge and created the legs using metaballs. But due to the lack of time, I was unable to fix the weird UV mapping on the legs (if you look closely, you'll see that the texture is all messed up). Every other part of the body was created using spheres. Even the shell, which was just a flattened deformed sphere with a custom turtle shell texture that I patched together from numerous turtle reference pics (it was hard to find a turtle shell pic that was taken from strait on top, and that had the right lighting/coloration) I also did some fooling around with turtle skin textures for the rest of the body. The head's texture took a bit longer than the rest, because I had to get the lips lined up right. I hope you like it! Enjoy!
