The Theatre Department nominated me to represent them as Homecoming King Candidate for the Fall '99 Semester. I decided why not and accepted the nomination. But, being me, I've got to be different. And I thought it'd be cool (and different) to have a page chronicling this occasion.
I am actually representing Alpha Psi Omega, the honorary Theatre Fraternity. You see, what had happened was that during a Footlights meeting (Footlights being the Theatre Club), Footlights voted for me to represent them as King. However, a lot of people from Alpha Psi are also in Footlights, and they were wondering about being my sponsor because Footlights was already sponsoring Carmel Canales, #15, for Queen. Footlights and APO both voted and it was agreed that I would represent APO.
But the nomination wuz just one part. After that came the bureacracy. All Homecoming candidates had to create a bio and submit it when filing for candidacy. The paragraph that follows is what I submitted. We'll see how it appears in the South Texan on Friday...
I think it's pretty cool that the Theatre Department thinks I'm good enough to represent them as King, but I'm looking at this whole process as something fun to do. Hence the webpage. But that also means I'm taking this with a cavalier attitude. For example, the boards I put up for advertising were spray-painted. Part of this wuz cuz it wuz cheaper, but also it's cuz it adds a different feel. In fact, one of the boards, complete with dripping letters, says
So you know who I would prefer you voted for for King, but what about Queen? Well, as stated above, Footlights nominated Carmel, #15 to run for Queen. But I've got other friends running for King and Queen as well.
Desiree Starr, #2, is the only other person I know running for Queen. I work with her at my on-campus job. (That SIP thing mentioned above)
Elias Benavides, or Eli, #1, is also a Theatre Major but he is representing the French Club. Lloyd Perez, or Jack as he is known to his friends, is representing the Electrical Engineers (I believe), but I don't know his number. And BJ Balderaz, who I met during the PRe-Engineering Program (PREP) in Summer '92, is representing the American Chemical Society (again, I don't know his number).
Out of the 36 people running (15 for King and 21 for Queen), these 6 (me, Carmel, Desiree, Eli, Jack, and BJ) are the ones I wish the best of luck to. 'course, I do wish a little more luck to Carmel and me! : )
Well, the contest is over, but I have decided to keep the page up as a reminder of the fun I had. I didn't win, and neither did Carmel, Desiree, Eli, Jack, or BJ. But it wuz fun, and that's all that really matters.
