In the beginning were Sigue Sigue Sputnik. -A diffenrent form of life who came, saw and
caused complete chaos.
The year was 1985, and nobody knew neither from where the triple 'S' star-logo
came, nor what it would come to mean...
It started as merchandising, and the key of Image, mixed together in a well
planned strategy; Make sure that people are aware of what it was that hit them.
The reception of this spectacular group had several versions; While some hailed
their arrival, and embraced the concept, others shook their heads, and dispatched
the Sputniks as 'Just Another Hype, Just Another Big Mouth Fall Hard. They've got
the Image, alright, but what about the music? Are they capable enough to
spit out something worth putting on the wall?'
The fact is, that neither just the music, nor just the image would
have done it; They both had to walk hand in hand to make it all fit in; The Image
was neccesary to bring out the music in it's full appearance, the same way
as the music completed the Image.
And yes, they had the music. A kind of music that was so great and so
revolting that most people failed to understand it ('cause how remarkable ain't the
idea of turning traditional rock 'n' roll a'la 50's, into future Sound?).
As for me, the party was already over when I arrived all too late; The haydays
were gone, and as it looked from then, not to return...
The year was 1994, the month was December, the scene..; A second had record
shop. I was digging through the dusty old storage of british music magazines from
the 80's, when I found an eight years old issue of 'Sounds'.'Sigue Sigue Sputnik
-Screamplay Or Storybored?' A colorful A3 photography of two strange
dressed men, told me to read the belonging article. And so I did. And so I was caught.
Thereafter things started to happen almost too fast; More articles, and
records brought me a decade back in time, and inspired me of making own SSS Fanzines
and T-shirts; My friends read the fanzines, I wore the t-shirts.
On a mission of researching I even went to a radio station with a request,
which simply was about comparing the past to the present; How would the people of
the ninth decade react to Sigue Sigue Sputnik?
They wouldn't even concider broadcasting my idea of investigation.
Anyway, and Sum Of substance; We were right -They were wrong; Time for resurrection
-No Glam Trash Boogie.
