This webpage features two Spanish Overstrikes: the host coin is a copper Spanish 1838 Isabel II 6 Cuartos from the Cataluna mint which has been cut down from 33mm to 29mm and overstriked as a Spanish 1855 Isabel II 8 Maravedis from the Barcelona mint.

The first coin is owned by Mike Diamond and exhibits strong design images of the host coin. I purchased the second coin from Mike :) The design elements aren't as strong, but overall, the outline of the host coin is more complete. The obverses of the host coins are the same, both are clearly dated 1838 and show Isabel II; they also both show the bottom of the shield and share the same outline of the shield. The obverse of coin 2 also clearly shows the interior of the shield broken into 4 parts, which is consistent with Spanish coins from this era.

When you open the pictures, the coin is orientated so that you are looking at the host coin, its date is on the bottom of the picture.

Microsoft Internet Explorer automatically reduces the resolution of pictures, this dramatically lowers the overall image quality. For best viewing, you should right click on a picutre, select Save Picture As, and save it to your desktop or a folder on your hard drive. Then open it, these are high quality images, you can zoom in closer and the detail will fill the screen.
