Students attending Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College (LCOOCC) can enhance their education with the LCOOCC technology center and advance their education easily through agreements with four-year universities. LCOOCC is a two-year college offering Associate of Arts and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges & Schools.
While attending LCOOCC, students gain the skills they need in a technological society. LCOOCC has a new Academic Technology Center (ATC) featuring a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Laboratory, a new Distance Learning Studio, and an Agricultural Laboratory.
In the GIS class and lab, students learn to analyze and map natural resources using satellite technology. Tribes benefit greatly from GIS technology because it allows them to manage their own natural resources.
Satellite technology also provides interactive communication with other tribal colleges. The Distance Learning Studio has been equipped with satellite uplink and downlink equipment allowing LCOOCC to send and receive classes to all other tribal colleges in the country. These colleges, as well as LCOOCC, are members of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC). Prior to obtaining uplink/downlink capability, LCOOCC participated in distance learning opportunities as a member of NWECS, a state-wide fiber-optic network of colleges, technical schools, and high schools. This membership continues to provide quality education to students on campus and abroad.
Telephone links allow access to the Internet for LCOOCC students. Student Support Services staff provide assistance and guidance for students accessing the Internet's resources.
In the realm of more personal and diplomatic relationships, LCOOCC students can transfer their credits to regional four-year universities and earn a Bachelor of Science degree. LCOOCC negotiated "two-plus-two" agreements with several University of Wisconsin System schools. Students who choose bachelor degree programs will complete their two-year Associate degree at LCOOCC. After graduation, all of their credits are transferred to one of the "2+2 universities" where they continue studying for two more years to complete a bachelor degree program.
