SWITZ CITY -- Sean May, Jared Jeffries and Mike Bridgwaters combined for 66 points and 29 rebounds to lead Bloomington North to a 104-42 victory over White River Valley Friday night.
May, a sophomore forward, scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to pace the second-ranked Cougars (15-0). Jeffries, a senior, added 23 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Bridgwaters finished with 19 points and five boards.
The Cougars last scored 104 points on Nov. 22, 1995, in a 104-49 win over Greencastle.
North shot 57 percent and dominated the boards against the Wolverines (1-16). North finished with a 53-14 rebounding cushion. White River Valley shot only 29 percent.
The Cougars won the game with its defensive pressure. North forced 21 WRV turnovers. BHSN had only 10 turnovers itself.
"Tonight it started with pressure," North coach Tom McKinney said. "We had a very good week of practice. We got back to working hard on defensive drills and it showed tonight.
"We wore them down with more depth and our players played very unselfishly. I like to see that."
Every Cougar played and freshman Mike Davis came off the bench to score a varsity career-high of 12. Josh Girvin, a senior post player, got his first basket of the season.
"North is not just a talented team," WRV coach Sean Vandeventer said. "Tom McKinney does a real good job. That defensive pressure is not just talent."
The Cougars opened the game with an 18-2 run and never looked back. May had all 24 of his points in the first half.
Senior guard Matt Kalua and junior guard Scott May spearheaded the defensive effort. They forced the Wolverines into 15 first-half turnovers.
Kalua signed with the University of Wisconsin Friday. Kalua will play soccer for the Badgers.
The Cougars won the JV game 51-14.
North hosts Bluffton Saturday night. JV game starts at 6 o'clock, followed by the varsity at 7:30.
