Tabuns (2001) considers the enthusiasm shown by leaders in the United States of America for sustaining a status quo that obstructs the ability for environmental and social issues to be ….. Tabuns (2001) reports that United States Vice President Cheney accepts the trade-off between maintaining the American 'way of life' and the unclean outputs from coal fired electricity plants. Turner (2001) elaborates on Cheneys dismissal of renewable energy sources and lack of concern for environmental and social issues relating to the extraction of oil from the Canadian National Wildlife Refuge. This would lead one to suspect that there is little interest within the current United States Administration in any bottom line that includes non-financial considerations.
